Cabot Wood Brightener Concentrate

Before staining your deck with Cabot Wood Brightener, you can get the most out of your deck prep. This brightener is formulated to remove unsightly discoloration of wood from tannin bleed, as well as nail and metal rust stains. You can use it on all painted, stained, and unfinished wood with great results, bringing back the rich, new-wood look on weathered wood.

Once diluted with water, the concentrate makes up to 5 gallons of wood brightener. The product restores a new-wood look, brightens and conditions the wood, and removes rust stains, tannin bleed, and dead, gray wood fibers. It also restores the wood's original color, making it ideal for decks, fences, exterior steps, exterior railings, and outdoor furniture.

The coverage range is 200 to 250 square feet per gallon, and the dry time is 15 to 20 minutes. Before you begin, it's recommended to test the brightener on a small, hidden area to determine its effectiveness.

During application, wet down any nearby shrubs and greenery with water and cover them with plastic. Then, apply the brightener liberally to the problem surfaces using a brush or pump sprayer. Avoid applying it to hot surfaces. To ensure a uniform appearance on vertical surfaces, start at the bottom, doing a small section at a time, and continue to the top, making sure to rinse thoroughly.

Let the brightener set for 15 to 20 minutes. Stubborn areas may require scrubbing with a stiff-bristle brush. If the surface begins to dry quickly, lightly mist it with water. Rinse off the brightener using a garden hose with a nozzle at maximum pressure or a high-pressure power washer. Repeat the procedure if necessary.

It's important to take caution when using this product, as it contains Oxalic Acid. Keep it out of the reach of children, and avoid inhaling the spray mist or getting it on your eyes, skin, or clothing. Wear protective equipment, including acid-resistant rubber gloves, goggles, boots, a dust mask, and other appropriate clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling, and do not take the product internally or mix it with other chemicals.
